The Parish

Little Rock Scripture Study Icon

In a Sunday bulletin, there was an article dedicated to reasons that make studying scripture an important aspect to maintaining our relationship with our Divine Friend. The article mentions the ancient practice of praying the scriptures known today as lectio divina. In September 2009 Queen of All Saints began offering Little Rock Scripture Study to support parishioners that wish to walk the path of building a livelier relationship with our Divine Friend through the practice of lectio divina.

Little Rock Scripture Study is a parish-based program that leads people to a greater understanding of the Bible, an awareness of God’s living presence in sacred scripture, and an appreciation of how the Bible can be applied to daily life. Through personal study, small-group discussion, lecture, and prayer, the program provides a solid balance of scholarship, reflection, and application.

Queen of All Saints will continue Little Rock Scripture Study with the The Gospel According to Luke. Marked by the compassion of Jesus, the Gospel stories of Luke demonstrate the universal nature of Jesus’ mission. Luke’s focus on God’s faithfulness will encourage you to trust. More.......

Father Prist Will Retire in June of 2010

I turn 69 years old on June 22, 2010. A week after that I will retire as pastor of Queen of All Saints. I came here when I was 54 years old and will retire at 69.

My decision to do this came after several weeks of deliberation and culminated in my eight day silent retreat at the end of June. On July 18th the Cardinal met with me and appreciated my reasons and affirmed the decision. Shortly after that I had a conference with our regional bishop who was also receptive to my decision. Finally the Priests’ Placement Board had to be notified to accept the parish into the pastor pool for next year.

My reasons had to do with duration, completion and transition. more...

New Pastor Process

The discernment and selection of a new pastor is an involved process. The following is an overview of the steps that must be taken.

Midsummer a questionnaire is sent to all priests asking them to decide if they would like to be in the pastor pool process.

In August, the Cardinal and the Bishops meet and we give them the list of possible parishes in their vicariates that might be in the pool for the next year placement. (Pastors who are reaching retirement age, the end of an extended term or the end of a second term -12 years). They edit the list, and then the Bishops start contacting the parishes to schedule a date.

They then inform the Board of the date so we can get the consultation team together and send out a packet regarding: information/data needed from the parish, general information about a bulletin notice to inform the parishioners of the parish meeting, and a transition workbook that is given to the new pastor. more...

The 70th Year of Our Parish School

A Catholic school is a Christian community rooted in the person of Jesus Christ, established by the church he founded to educate and form the next generation about the central mysteries of life and faith. Monday, August 24 was the first day of classes for the 2009-2010 school year. It is also marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of Queen of All Saints School. As we begin this new school year, let us strive to live each day with gratitude for the blessings of our children.

First Sunday Adoration

imageAs Catholics, we believe in the real presence of Christ in the Holy Eucharist. We believe in our hearts and openly profess that the bread and wine placed upon the altar are, by the mystery of the sacred prayer and the words of the Redeemer, substantially changed into the true and life-giving flesh and blood of Jesus Christ our Lord.

On the first Sunday of each month, the 12:30 Mass will conclude with the Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, the Litany of the Holy Eucharist and Benediction. Doing so we honor our Lord Jesus Christ, who is present in the Holy Eucharist. The purpose of Eucharistic Adoration is to provide us with an opportunity to spend time with our Lord. It is an opportunity to be consoled by Jesus, to converse with Jesus and bring Him our prayers, concerns, worries, joys, and our sins.

May this Adoration of the Lord in the Blessed Sacrament on the first Sundays of each month be the expression our faith. May it draw us into a deeper appreciation of Christ's presence and help us grow in a more loving relationship with the Lord.

A Call To Religious Life And Priesthood

Jesus trusts God, and listens to His directions. Many times we hear God's call, but do not listen, because God's plan is not our own. Is God calling you to the priesthood or religious life? There is only one way to find out...trust God. For more information about the priesthood contact Fr. Joe Noonan at (312) 534-8298 or at jnoonan@archchicago.org or visit www.ChicagoPriest.com. For more information about the religious life, contact Sr. Elyse Marie Ramirez, O.P. at (312) 534-5240 or at eramirez@archchicago.org.
